Tics are described by the NHS Choices website as: "...rapid, repetitive, involuntary contractions of a group of muscles..."
The NHS Choices website also says that: "...The exact cause of tics is unknown, but they often run in families, with several family members being affected. Tics are thought to be a genetic disorder, with some environmental factors also playing a role..."
